I am Chartered Quantity Surveyor with more than 40 years of experience; 38 of those years spent working for myself, either as a freelancer or small practitioner. I am a traditional measurement and valuation QS and I enjoy the technical/analytical part of the QS role. I have a long history of pricing document production (BQs and Schedules of Works) and cost calculation (Feasibility Studies, Cost Plans, Value Engineering, Options Studies and Valuations [including forensic analysis and Expert Valuation reports]).
I have now re-located myself in my home office, having departed my High Street office of 21 years. The time had come to streamline my working day and strip out non fee earning activity, and the current cost of energy reinforces the case.
Whilst I have worked directly for clients, developers, contractors and subcontractors during my career, in recent years I have become increasingly client focused and most of my work has been as a sub consultant to Peter W Gittins and Associates, Chartered Quantity Surveyors.
There have been two streams of work. Firstly, in the adaption, extension and conservation of historic buildings for St John’s College Oxford (Library and Study Centre phases 2 and 3), Magdelan College, Oxford (SCR Smoking Room and Winter Common Room), for new Boarding accomodation and Associated Adaptions at St Paul’s Cathedral School and refurbishment of residential buildings at Golden Lane Estate, London.
Secondly, in Passivhaus construction: at Cannock Mill, Colchester for a co-housing client, at Peaslake Farm, Peaslake, Surrey and Woodham Place, Woking, the latter two for Greenoak Housing Association.
I have spare capacity and I am very keen to take on more instructions. In particular, in the areas of feasibility studies, cost planning, value engineering, options studies, pricing documents, interim valuations, valuation of variations, final accounts, post contract cost reporting and forecasting.
